Art Journals
Kids in Need in Cambridge give over 1000 Christmas gifts each year to the young people in the Waikato who have gone into care or to live with grandparents. This must be traumatic for them and because we know that a blank page is useful for helping the body deal with trauma, we arranged for the young people to receive an Art Journal.
When Cyclone Gabrielle hit Aotearoa, our Journal co-ordinator Nicole arranged for 260 care packages to go to the most affected schools, each including an Art Journal, colour pencils etc.
Our vision is for all young people who would like an Art Journal to be able to receive one free. Especially those in isolated areas who might be able to form a small club between themselves for support of their ideas and dreams. The Facebook page connects to Nicole who will support the supply of books to young people anywhere. If you would like to sponsor books or know young people who would like them please contact Nicole.

Carry Bags/Service Clubs
A fabric carry bag for the art books would protect the special book
You Tube has a video for making bags out of denim jeans
Thousands of tons of jeans are sent to landfill every year from charity stores
Sewers could collect unsold jeans and make carry bags (the handle is made from the legs of the jeans)
Service clubs could collect the bags and send to Nicole in Tauranga for distribution or collate the packages and distribute in their area.
The service club could then replace the books as required by young people.
Future artists, poets, song writers and movie scripters, artists and architects would be being supported in their private talents, gifts and dreams.
A young person wanting a musical instrument and coaching, fabric and sewing machine for a young fashion designer, plants and cuttings for a young horticulturist?
We have to find our young entrepreneurs and support them.
How can you/your club help?

Bag Size
Make sure the jeans are wide enough for an A4 or an A3 book to fit in.
An A3 book will need width of 46-50cm so will have to use jeans 98cm -105cm jeans.
An A4 journal will need 40cm+ width so jeans from 80cm to 96cm wide.
To also include a pencil case, ruler, ballpoint pen, eraser, pencil sharpener, and 12 coloured pencils. Clever people might make denim pencil cases.
