Murals

Opotiki Children's Art House artists painted over 30 murals in Opotiki town and environs. Hundreds of young people spent thousands of hours planning, designing, preparing and painting these in the spirit of peace and co-operation.

There was no public recognition for this massive work, no Council or other authorities publicly congratulated the young people.

Police, however highly acclaimed the youth, the crime rate dropped remarkably.

When young people are provided creative space there is less need to commit crime or suicide.

Nawton Community Mural

In 2011 NZ Children's Art House Foundation were invited to assist Community Constable Paul Tierney to work with young people in Nawton to paint a mural in the school holidays. Shona Hammond Boys, Carolyn Longden and Peter Calvert assisted in creating a mural which was erected behind the Nawton Community Police Station.
